Net als bij een wandeling dwaalt mijn oog af en blijft hier of daar hangen, of liever hier en daar. Erin of zelfs eronder, van het ene blad naar het andere of in het onbekende terrein onder de aarde. Po l’occhio, zoals Vinci zei.
Ik werk als een portrettist en teken een boom als een menigte, elk blad als een gezicht, elke bloem als een eiland en de wortels als bomen. En haal soms alles door elkaar. Dan verzamel ik deze beelden en perspectieven in een nieuw en prachtig verhaal.
De manier is paradoxaal: monumentaal tekenen voor details wordt vaak beschouwd als ‘onderaan de kunst-hiërarchie’. Het geeft bijna realistische, bijna naturalistische tekeningen… bijna maar niet helemaal.

Like a walk, my eye wanders and lingers here or there, or rather here and there. In it or even under it, from one leaf to another or into the unknown terrain beneath the earth. Po l’occhio, as Vinci said.
I work like a portraitist, drawing a tree as a crowd, each leaf as a face, each flower as an island and the roots as trees. And sometimes mix everything up.
Then I gather these images and perspectives into a new and beautiful story.
The way is paradoxical: monumental drawing for details is often considered ‘at the bottom of the art hierarchy’. It produces almost realistic, almost naturalistic drawings… almost but not quite.

Comme dans une promenade, le regard flâne, s’attarde ici ou là, ou plutôt ici et là. Il s’enfonce dedans ou même dessous, se promène d’une feuille à l’autre et imagine même le territoire inconnu sous la terre. Po l’occhio, comme disait Vinci.
Le geste suit ce regard et assemble les images et les perspectives comme dans un conte merveilleux.
Le trait est celui du portraitiste qui dessine un arbre comme une foule, chaque feuille comme un visage, chaque fleur comme une île et les racines comme des arbres. Et parfois mélange tout.
Le moyen est paradoxal : dessin monumental pour des details, souvent considérés tout en bas de la hiérarchie de l’art. Et donne des dessins presque réalistes, presque naturalistes.. mais pas vraiment.
