Textielwerk / gebreide, gehaakte, gekloste kantwerkjes, textiel, metaal
Zoals de natuur alles benut, werk ik liefst met gerecupereerd materiaal. Voor deze plek transformeerde ik oude gebreide, gehaakte, gekloste kantwerkjes en afgeschreven textiel tot een soort cocon. Inspirerend vind ik de weefsels die rupsen spinnen om zich te verpoppen tot vlinder. Door de klimaatverandering hebben vele levensvormen moeite met aanpassen aan hun snel veranderende omgeving. Ze sterven uit of zijn bedreigd, zo ook vele vlindersoorten.
In verschillende culturen werd de fysieke metamorfose van rups tot vlinder in verband gebracht met verborgen, innerlijke ontplooiing. De omhulsels hier staan symbool voor de noodzakelijke bewustwording en mentaliteitswijziging om ons enige huis, onze planeet, te redden. Blijven we ons verschuilen in onze individuele cocon of verpoppen we tot bewuste en respectvolle aardbewoners?

Just as nature exploits everything, I prefer to work with recycled materials. For this spot, I transformed old knitted, crocheted, bobbin lace and discarded textiles into a kind of cocoon.
I find inspiring the fabrics that caterpillars spin to pupate into butterflies. With climate change, many life forms are struggling to adapt to their rapidly changing environment. They are dying out or are endangered, so are many butterfly species.
In several cultures, the physical metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly was associated with hidden, inner unfolding. The sheaths here symbolise the necessary awareness and mindset change to save our only home, our planet. Will we continue to hide in our individual cocoon or will we pupate into conscious and respectful earthlings?

Comme la nature utilise tout, je préfère travailler avec des matériaux récupérés. Pour cet endroit, j’ai transformé d’anciens tricots, crochets, dentelles et textiles réformés en une sorte de cocon.
Je trouve inspirants les réseaux filés par les chenilles pour se transformer en papillons. Avec les bouleversements climatiques, de nombreuses formes de vie s’efforcent de s’adapter à leur environnement en mutation rapide. Elles s’éteignent ou sont en voie de disparition, tout comme de nombreuses espèces de papillons.
Dans différentes cultures, la métamorphose physique de la chenille en papillon a été associée à un épanouissement intérieur caché. Les enveloppes ici symbolisent la prise de conscience nécessaire et le changement de mentalité pour sauver notre unique maison, notre planète. Allons-nous continuer à nous cacher dans notre cocon individuel ou allons-nous nous métamorphoser en habitants conscients et respectueux de la Terre?
